Owning a website or a blog is a wonderful thing to do, it gives you an outlet for your writing, your business or just a place to call your own. But in order to make it worthwhile, you need to make sure that you are driving traffic to the site and to do that you will probably want to consider some form of marketing. With that in mind, here are some of the ways that you can promote your website to increase traffic and hopefully make some money from your venture.

One way that you can make the most from your marketing is by getting your message out there online. An option for you to utilize is social media, from Facebook to Twitter and everything in between. Depending on what kind of website you are trying to promote you might want to consider which social media account is best for you. If you’re a photography website, then look into getting your Instagram profile up and running so that you can attract followers from across the spectrum. The same applies if you’re selling something that is photogenic.

Remember that social media is an opportunity for you to interact with the people who are using your website, but these conversations are public and can be used to promote your brand as well. Positive feedback online is going to shine a light on your social network profile and reflect well on your website and blog.  

Digital marketing isn’t just on social media. If you’re serious about promoting yourself, then you should ensure that you have good SEO practice. What this means is optimizing your website or web page for organic search engine results by making sure your content is of high quality, includes keywords and the loading speed is not slow. SEO is used by every website across the internet in order to make sure their page gets the highest chance of succeeding on the likes of Google and Bing.

Offline

If you really want to get your name out there, then maybe you should consider heading offline and going for a traditional route of advertising. Printed products, advertisements and other older forms of marketing still exist and can be lucrative to you in the right environments. For example, a band will have recordings of their songs and will want to build up a portfolio online of fans. By getting that CD ready to hand out offline with all of the information, you are creating a buzz offline with the intention of directing them back online.

Alternatively, if you see potential in your blog and you want to see how far you can push it then you should advertise yourself as much as possible. That doesn’t mean put yourself in debt but if you’re a car blog then consider getting some branded car air fresheners. By making an impression in potential reader’s everyday lives, you will be more likely to find them making their way to your website.
